KJ Mohr Appointed as Director of Programming for the 25th Anniversary of Maryland Film Festival
BALTIMORE — The Maryland Film Festival (MdFF) is proud to announce KJ Mohr as the newly appointed Director of Programming for its landmark 25th Anniversary celebration. Slated for May 2-5, 2024, at the historic SNF Parkway Theatre, the festival will benefit from Mohr’s visionary guidance. Attendees can anticipate a nostalgic retrospective of past favorites and a glimpse into the future of film with emerging cinematic technologies.
Mohr, a professional film curator and educator with three decades of experience in art house cinemas, festivals, museums, community-based, and educational organizations, is poised to elevate the festival’s offerings. “Our 25th Anniversary Maryland Film Festival Celebration will showcase the world-class legacy of MdFF, pay homage to the extraordinary talent currently drawn to Baltimore, and envision the future of MdFF as a thriving hub of creation and innovation,” Mohr expressed.
Having collaborated with MdFF in various capacities since relocating to Baltimore in 2011, Mohr is deeply familiar with the festival’s ethos and its commitment to the community. “I am honored that MdFF has entrusted me with the task of curating this landmark festival. We are committed to showcasing the cinematic excellence synonymous with MdFF, featuring star-studded premieres, hosting unique special events, and offering innovative experiences both within and outside the theater spaces,” Mohr added.
Camille Blake Fall, Chair of the MdFF Film Festival Committee, who spearheaded the search for the director position, shared her enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to welcome KJ to the Maryland Film Festival as its Director of Festival Programming for our silver anniversary celebration. Under her leadership and vision, the 25th edition of the festival promises to be a fantastic event, and we can’t wait to be back.”
Mohr’s deep-rooted passion for film, education, and community engagement makes her an ideal fit for this role. She currently serves as the Director of Programming for the Tampa Bay International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival and teaches in the MFA Filmmaking program at the Maryland Institute College of Art and in the Film and Video Studies Department at George Mason University. Mohr’s past affiliations include Baltimore’s Creative Alliance, the Annapolis Film Festival, Outfest, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts, among others.
As the festival gears up for its 25th anniversary, Mohr’s appointment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for MdFF. With her at the helm, the festival is set to offer a diverse and inclusive cinematic experience that resonates with audiences and filmmakers alike.
