Sweaty Eyeballs Animation Festival

Sweaty Eyeballs Animation Festival is a three-day celebration of the world’s most cutting-edge, quirky, and boundary-pushing animation. The inaugural festival will premiere October 4-6, 2019, hosted by the SNF Parkway.

The festival premieres Friday, October 4, with an opening night show of silent animated short films, accompanied by live music from over 15 local artists, followed by an exclusive after party in the SNF Parkway Lounge. Saturday, October 5, is packed with juried independent animated short film blocks all day; a retrospective and masterclass by special guest Joanna Priestley, a collection of films exclusively by Baltimore animators, and a late-night feature. The festival concludes Sunday, October 6, with an awards brunch for competition winners, FREE hands-on animation workshops at the JHU-MICA Film Centre, and—you guessed it—more animated films!

MISSION + HISTORY

The mission of Sweaty Eyeballs Animation Festival is to showcase unique, experimental and diverse voices in the field of animated filmmaking with a focus on innovation in craft, storytelling and work that questions preconceived notions of what animation can and should be. Sweaty Eyeballs Animation Festival will foster a community of animation lovers and creators in the Mid-Atlantic region and create a significant presence and space for peer discussion on the artform, encouraging a substantial community for animation beyond academia in Baltimore.

Since 2012, Sweaty Eyeballs has carried the torch of the animation scene in the Mid-Atlantic with independent animation programming & special events. Now in our 8th year, we are partnering with our longtime friends at MDFF to launch this more substantial annual event.
